Mother's Day 1993 - The Photo Tree

♫ The song attached to this story was one of William's favorite songs. I feel it speaks volumes. I can still hear William singing it. He had a beautiful voice. Please listen to the song as you read the story below. Thank you

With Mother's Day being days away and with consideration to the ongoing climate within the family - I feel it is important to share this story.

My Children's father (whom I was married to for 27 years) always seemed to try his hardest to make Mother's Day miserable for me. In 1993, he refused to take the Children to the mall to buy a Photo Tree for me for Mother's Day. My Children saw this little tree in a newspaper ad and they combined their money to buy it for me. When their father refused to take them to the mall, our Children called my Mom and Dad to ask if they would take them to the mall.

My tearful Mom called me at work to tell me how awful it was that Jack didn't place any importance on Mother's Day. My Dad picked my Children up and took them to the mall to buy the Photo Tree. Ten years later, their father destroyed it. Any attempt to destroy a child’s connection to his or her parent is child abuse!

- You can tell a lot about a man by the way he treats the mother of his children. -

The memory of the Photo Tree my Children gave me for Mother's Day in 1993 can never be destroyed. I can still see Natalie handing the beautifully wrapped box containing the Photo Tree to William, to give to me. William was almost three years old and he was so excited to give me a gift. The tree had seven frames and I put baby photos of each of my children inside them.

One day William, Jimmy and I were at JC Penney and saw a Photo Tree that was very similar to the one my Children gave me for Mother's Day in 1993. Jimmy bought the little tree for me and William put the photos of his Nieces and Nephews inside the little frames - carefully trimming each one to fit. I then added William's baby photo on top as a show of respect for Uncle William's Love for his Nieces and Nephews. There are fourteen photos on the tree in total - back and front.

I have attached three photos to this story. The first photo was taken today. The second photo was taken in September 2012 right after we returned from Tampa when William died and the third photo is of William and Jimmy in 2006. You can see the little photo tree on top of the cabinet in all three photos. The Photo Tree is still there and it will always be there.

All William wanted was Peace - for everyone to get along together. I wish some members of the family would give William the gift of Peace - a gift William so richly deserves.

Though William is physically gone, his spirit is very much alive. Jimmy and I feel his Love surrounding us every moment.

342 Forever, William ♥
